Koi Pond Portfolio - 1500 gallons, Kent

This Japanese themed pond was built and landscaped in 2008 by Nippon Nishikigoi. It is a compact yet very good little pond which has the ability to grow and develop tosaiA koi 0-11 months old, has completed one summer growth period particularly well. Built on the site of a previous small pond the excavation was completed to 5ft before pouring the concrete base. The pond is built using traditional block, rendered and fibreglassed and finished with fissured limestone. Filtration is provided by an EazyPOD on a side feed and a Bakki Shower pumped directly from the bottom drain and returning using a bespoke stainless steel weir, two pumps power the system which is also heated by an Elecro 3kw electric heater. The filtration is concealed beneath decking and the shower is hidden from view using bamboo fencing. Once completed we were asked to clad the existing fencing in bamboo, construct the low Japanese design trellis fence to the front, build a full pergola over the pond and install lighting for night time viewing and maintenance. The finished effect is a compact system which suits the small town garden with its clean oriental appearance and concealed filtration.
