Our Proud Koi

Kokugyo (coh' coo-g yoh) means "national fish".The term also can be used for the title given to Koi that wins 'Best in Size' at the All Japan Combined Nishikigoi Show. The prize is named the Kokugyo prize. Literally, it is the best prize for that section of Koi. Many Koi hobbyists aim for this prize. The same award at the ZNA All Japan Nishikigoi Show is called the 'Rin'oh prize'.

On the 8th November 2008 a TaniguchiTaniguchi koi farm, Hukuyama-shi, Hiroshima, Japan NisaiA koi 12-23 months old, has completed two summer growth periods KohakuA red & white koi, that Nippon Nishikigoi  sourced on our autumn 2008 trip, was exhibited at the 44th ZNA Koi Show. The koi won 50bu Rin'Oh (Kokugyo) Prize.

Nippon Nishikigoi had sold the koi to our client Peter Lewis who was on a buying trip with us that autumn. The koi was openly offered for sale on the website for 2 days before and one night in a restaurant Peter said 'I've just got to buy it', so Simon put in a phone call to TaniguchiTaniguchi koi farm, Hukuyama-shi, Hiroshima, Japan to confirm its entrance into the show. This was Peter's first trip to Japan, and he had never entered any koi show before not even in England. Instead he decided to go straight into the deep end and enter the ZNA All Japan koi show. So a lot was riding on the koi, we are glad now we can relax as it took top honors, and that we delivered in our customers quest for a serious KohakuA red & white koi.

So if your thinking about visiting Japan, or in search of that special koi, book a trip with us, as we are maybe only one of two dealers to achieve this award from the UK.
