Information regarding our koi for
sale.
Selection and importation.
All of our koi shown on our koi for sale pages are 100% hand selected
by ourselves in Japan. Simon visits Japan between 3 and 5 times per
year depending on stocks available to select koi for our customers.
They are purchased from some of the best breeders in Japan, details of
which can be found on the dedicated Breeder Information page found on
the menu above. Once selected they are boxed by the breeder and
collected by our Japanese shipping agents on the day of shipping to
ensure no cross contamination is possible. Once they are all collected
they are shipped by plane normally from Kansai airport using JAL or
Korean Air Cargo. They land some 12 hours later at London Heathrow
where they are cleared via the Animal Reception Center (ARC) by our
appointed fish clearing agents. Once cleared they are then transported
home to Kent where they are acclimatised into the pond for the
quarantine period.
Quarantine, Heat
ramping and treatment.
Once the koi have been allowed to settle for a few days we
start testing them to ensure they are FREE of any parasites or viruses.
We take regular skin scrapes to check for parasites and these are
treated accordingly. During the one month self imposed quarantine
period we ramp the temperature at least 3 times from below 14oC to
around 25oC to allow the koi to experience a stressing factor to ensure
no KHV is present within the koi. During this time all of the koi from
the shipment are housed in the fish house and no nets or bowls are
allowed to cross between this and the main pond. If a suspect koi shows
clinical signs of KHV during this process, we send either blood samples
or fish samples to CEFAS in Weymouth for further testing - any koi
shipments showing signs of virus during the process are destroyed in
co-operation with CEFAS and DEFRA. We feel it is our responsibility as
koi dealers to take these steps irrespective of koi value to ensure the
koi we supply to the hobbyist is as safe as possible.
Viewing and purchase of
our koi.
Our koi sales are possible through appointment only. This
ensures that you as a client receive the best possible customer service
during the selection process. During this process there is no pressure
to purchase our koi, you may view as many koi as you wish before making
a decision to purchase the koi. Once the decision to purchase is made
we can either box the koi for you to take home or if there is a
temperature difference due to the time of the year then we can hold the
koi for you until this is resolved. For koi purchased by customers in
autumn with un heated ponds it is possible for us to hold the koi for
you. For this we ask a small fee of around £10 for tosai,
£20 for nisai and £30 for sansai and above per month per koi
to cover its feed and pond space. If the koi is a Tosai (less than 1
year old) then it well probably be held in the fish house where it may
experience growth of around 3 - 4 cm per month - although this isn't
guaranteed.
